Blogging has been a part of my life for quite some time. After a year or so of infrequent (and quite unstructured) Tumblring, I decided to put a larger focus on blogging and launched a site called Style Every Day in the Spring of 2009. I was a grad schooler needing a creative outlet to express something other than the research papers that filled my school days and nights.
I poured a lot of hours, sweat, tears and even more horrible photographs into that blog. I loved it like a child. My focus on affordable fashion was such a passion and my daily outfit posts kept me accountable to the blog’s motto of: You don’t have to spend a lot of money to look stylish.
Fast forward to late 2014 and five years later my life had changed so much. Working an office job each day, I didn’t need to post my outfits online to show my style. I had transitioned my style into my everyday life. While I really enjoyed the community of amazing fashion bloggers in St. Louis, attending events started to feel more like work than something I enjoyed.
Eventually, my blogging slowed to a halt. In 2009 I was writing almost five posts a week. By 2013, I was lucky if I published two a week. By 2014, a one week hiatus turned into one month and suddenly my blog was mostly dormant of new content.
I’ve been taking a break for nearly a year to consider where I went from this place. As I thought more about whether I wanted to do this at all, I longed for that creative outlet that was something different from my day job (even though I work a creative day job). I also realized that the passion that started and sustained Style Every Day for so long was my love of beautiful things.
As I begged many of my blogger friends to help me brainstorm what my new blog should be, I landed on the concept of making my blog a place to share everything that inspires me. Some days I want to spend the day shopping. Some days I want to spend the day in the kitchen. Some days I want to just be.
Rachael IRL will be a site to share all of my offline passions online. I can’t promise any consistency but I can promise passion, enthusiasm and a few lovely things.
Welcome to my new little corner of the Internet. Come on in.
